Lucy May set up The Organic Cookery School in 2004 with Frances Williams, a colleague from Four S (formerly Surrey Schools Support Service) with a shared desire to offer ethical and healthy cookery learning opportunities to families with children in the primary age bracket.
Originally from a primary teaching background, and with experience as an advisor for Extended Learning activities (out of school hours learning and family learning), she noted the lack of confidence many schools and children’s centres had in delivering their own cookery and nutrition programmes.
After a successful pilot in 2005, Lucy and Frances extended their programme to include family learning, which is now the main focus of many of their funded projects. As a not-for-profit organisation, The Organic Cookery School strives to access funding to offer its activities to as many parents, children and young people as possible, and we work closely with partner organisations to identify local need.
